Installation Method for FIA50-65A-80-100D Ammonia Refrigeration Filter

When installing this filter, the top cover must face downward, and the flow direction must be toward the top cover, as indicated by the arrow on the filter valve body (Figure 1). The filter element must be inserted after welding. The filter valve body can withstand high internal pressure. Nevertheless, the piping system design must also avoid liquid traps to prevent damage to the pipeline due to excessive pressure caused by thermal expansion. The pipeline design should consider effective protection against transient "liquid hammer" phenomena in the system.

Recommended Flow Direction

When installing the filter, the flow direction must be toward the top cover, consistent with the arrow on the valve body side (Figure 1). Installation in the opposite direction is prohibited.

Welding

The top cover should be removed before welding (Figure 2) to avoid damage to the gasket between the filter valve body and the top cover. Only materials and welding methods compatible with the valve body material should be used for the valve body. The interior of the filter should be cleaned to remove welding slag after welding is completed before reassembling the valve. The top cover may not need to be removed under the following conditions: The temperature in the area between the valve body and the top cover during welding does not exceed +150°C/+302°F. This temperature depends on the welding method and the cooling of the filter valve body during welding. (Cooling can be ensured by wrapping a wet cloth around the filter valve body.) Ensure that no foreign objects, welding debris, etc., enter the filter during welding. After installation, the filter valve body must not be subjected to external pressure (external loads). The filter must not be installed in a system where the filter outlet is open to the atmosphere. The outlet side of the filter must always be connected to the system or sealed, for example, with a welded end plate.

Assembly

Remove welding slag and foreign objects from the pipeline and filter valve body before assembly. Before inserting the filter into the top cover, check that the filter element size is correct and inspect the gasket for damage. Install the filter element from the bottom (position D). The element can be installed in the housing with slight force and does not require an O-ring. If a magnet insert is selected as an accessory, it should be installed on the top cover before replacing the top cover.

Tightening

Use a torque wrench to tighten the top cover to the value specified in the table (Figure 3). Be sure to adhere to the table (Figure 3), which includes the maximum torque, and do not exceed it. If a drain valve is selected as an accessory, it should replace the drain plug.

Color and Identification

FIA valves are factory-painted with red primer. The valve can be accurately identified by the ID plate on the top cover and the stamp on the valve body. After installation and assembly, the external surface of the valve body must be protected with an appropriate coating to prevent corrosion. When repainting the valve, be sure to protect the ID plate.
